Robinson R66
The Robinson R66 is a light, single-engine turbine helicopter manufactured by Robinson Helicopter Company, designed as an evolution of the popular R44 model. Introduced in 2010 and FAA-certified, it features a five-seat configuration with a separate cargo compartment, making it suitable for private, commercial, and utility applications. Powered by a Rolls-Royce RR300 turboshaft engine delivering up to 270 shaft horsepower, the R66 offers a maximum cruise speed of around 120 knots and a range of approximately 260 nautical miles, providing enhanced performance over piston-engine alternatives.

Among its key advantages, the R66 stands out for its cost-effectiveness, boasting the lowest acquisition and operating costs among turbine helicopters, often one-third the price and half the expenses of competitors. It excels in reliability with low unscheduled maintenance, high-altitude capabilities, and responsive handling ideal for flight training. Additionally, its increased payload capacity, fuel efficiency (with average burns in the low 20s gallons per hour), and modern avionics make it a versatile choice for extended endurance up to three hours and smoother flights compared to piston models.
